Oregon Wedding Planning Timeline: When to Book Each Vendor
One of the most common questions couples ask after getting engaged: when do I actually need to book everything? The answer varies by vendor type, but here’s a realistic Oregon-specific booking timeline based on what fills up first and what can wait.
12–18 Months Out: Book These First
- Venue — Peak Saturdays (June–September) at popular Oregon venues book 12–18 months out. This is the single most time-sensitive booking.
- Wedding photographer — Good photographers book out 12+ months for peak dates. If you have a specific photographer in mind, lock them in as soon as possible.
9–12 Months Out
- DJ/entertainment — Quality DJs in Oregon’s wedding market (Salem, Portland, Eugene, Bend) book out 9–12 months for prime Saturdays. Don’t wait until 6 months out and expect your first choice to be available.
- Caterer — Especially if your venue doesn’t have in-house catering.

6–9 Months Out
- Photo booth — Less lead time than DJ, but Saturdays in peak season still fill. 6 months is comfortable; 3 months is cutting it close for June/July/August dates.

- Wedding cake/desserts — Bakers often book 6 months out for peak weekends.
- Videography/films — Same window as photography. Good filmographers book similarly fast.
3–6 Months Out
- Hair and makeup
- Officiant
- Rehearsal dinner venue
- Transportation
1–3 Months Out
- Final vendor confirmations — Touch base with all vendors, confirm arrival times, deliver final music lists and timelines.
- Marriage license — Oregon requires this within 60 days of the ceremony.
